Norman North’s Kinlie Melton has Team First Approach – Presented by Pioneer Realty

For Norman North junior Kinlie Melton, softball has become much more than a sport. After nine years of competing, the Lady Timberwolves varsity fastpitch player has found a second family in the teammates who share the field, dugout and daily work required to improve.

Melton values the support that surrounds her at Norman North. Whether the Lady Timberwolves are celebrating a win or pushing through a difficult moment, she knows her teammates will be there.

“What I love most about my team and teammates at Norman North is how supportive they are! They are always behind my back no matter what. That is something that matters more than any win!” Melton said.

That team-first perspective also shapes Melton’s role in the dugout. She describes herself as one of the loudest voices for the Lady Timberwolves, bringing energy and encouragement to her teammates throughout every game.

Her appreciation for effort extends to teammate Kennedy Walker, whose hustle stands out to Melton.

“I would say I’m probably the loudest in the dugout, but the person that goes home with the dirtiest uniform is probably Kennedy Walker, she gives so much effort every single play that she will dive for every ball that comes her way,” Melton said.

Melton has also been influenced by teammate Brielle Stone, whose work ethic motivates her to lead through her own actions.

“A teammate who has left a big impression on me is Brielle Stone. She works so hard and always gives everything she has, and that motivates me to do the same for her. I want to be someone she can look up to and someone who leads by example. Knowing how hard she works for me makes me want to work even harder for her,” Melton said.

On the field, Melton embraces high-stakes moments. Her competitiveness helps drive her as a pitcher, while she continues working to develop greater velocity and consistency in her pitches.

“I think one of the biggest strengths of my game is my competitiveness. I love being in pressure situations and finding ways to compete for my team. Right now, I’m working on increasing my velocity, becoming more consistent with all of my pitches, and continuing to grow as an overall pitcher,” Melton said.

Away from softball, Melton participates in Christians on Campus and National Honor Society. Her mother remains an important source of support and inspiration, while her future goals include playing college softball, studying kinesiology and becoming a pediatric occupational therapist.
