For Norman North junior Madelyn Card, softball is built on more than strong performances between the lines. It is about growth, connection and making every day with her teammates count.
A varsity center fielder, Card has competed in softball for 11 years. She embraces the responsibility that comes with directing the outfield while also contributing to a young Norman North team she believes has a bright future.
“What I love the most about this year’s Norman North team is how funny the entire group is and how much we have bonded well together this year. We put in the work but always make sure we have a blast while doing it. We are a young team this year with a lot of potential for the next few years. I’m proud of the growth we have had this season.”
Center field demands preparation, awareness and communication, especially with each pitch creating a new situation. Card takes pride in handling those responsibilities for the Timberwolves.
“I play centerfield, and the most challenging part of my job is being in the right position for every pitch and making sure all of us in the outfield are communicating well.”
Card credits her mother as an important source of inspiration, both in athletics and in life.
“My mom is who inspires me. She has taught me work ethic, having a good attitude no matter if I’m up or down, and that I am more than just a softball player.”
Away from the diamond, Card runs track and is involved with Students Performing Unselfish Deeds, where she serves as video chair. She also looks to former Norman North standout Marcella Oballa as an example of leadership through respect and service.
Card has verbally committed to continue her softball career at Oklahoma State after high school.
