Norman North High School’s Avery Hamilton is a versatile presence for the Lady Timberwolves, bringing leadership and a thoughtful approach to the game from both the setter and right-side positions. “I play setter and right side, I think something I’ve been working on is my blocking, for right side blocking your blocking one of the best and most consistent hitters on the other side, outside, so it’s important to set up a consistent block,” Hamilton said. Her focus on improving at the net mirrors the program’s broader commitment to growth and consistency.
Hamilton believes this year’s Norman North squad has the pieces to contend, especially on the defensive side of the ball. “I think we will look very good this year; we have a very hard-working team with a similar goal in mind which is to win. I think our defense will be one of our strong suits this year as well,” she said. She also highlights younger teammates like sophomore pin hitter Aubrey Tidwell as examples of the talent rising through the program. “I think Aubrey Tidwell is an amazing player to watch. She is a sophomore on varsity and was previously on freshman. She is a pin hitter and has a powerful arm swing with hitting and serving,” Hamilton said.
Off the court, Hamilton is preparing for an ambitious future that includes the United States Military Academy at West Point. “I plan to play volleyball at the United States Military Academy at Westpoint, majoring in chemistry and maybe minoring in terrorism studies. After that I want to branch in chemical corps and hopefully work in a crime lab as a forensic scientist,” she said. Through volleyball, student council and everyday life, she wants her legacy to be defined by her mindset. “I want to be remembered for my attitude, I think having a positive attitude is one of the best things a person can control, and it not only goes for sports but in school as well,” Hamilton said.
